Anthony Joshua OBE is a British professional boxer who was born on October 15, 1989. He previously held the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight belts twice between 2016 and 2021, making him a two-time former unified world heavyweight champion.
He competed for England as an amateur and won a silver medal in the super-heavyweight event at the 2011 World Championships. Additionally, he won gold when competing for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.
At age 11 he moved to Nigeria to attend boarding school. He was there for six months before he returned to England to continue his education.
After his return to England, he enrolled in Kings Langley Secondary School located in Garston, Hertfordshire.
As one of the most marketable athletes in the world, Anthony Joshua has rich endorsement deals with a variety of companies.
His success has been linked to his “rags to riches” tale, supporting the idea that by devoting himself to boxing, he avoided a life of violence and crime.
He has expressed a desire to eclipse Floyd Mayweather’s reported $700 million career earnings.
Joshua was selected in the 2021 edition of the annual Powerlist magazine as one of the 100 most influential Black Britons.
He says he feels a great connection to his Nigerian roots and has a tattoo of the African continent with the outline of Nigeria on his right shoulder.
A video of him speaking to Loughborough University students who allegedly taunted him over avoiding a fight with Tyson Fury surfaced in May 2022.
