Chris Del Mar AM, a Gold Coast GP and Bond University Professor of Public Health, died last weekend, three years after a catastrophic surfing accident.

Professor Del Mar was an outspoken supporter of evidence-based medicine and a vociferous opponent of antibiotic resistance.

Professor Del Mar was involved in a major accident in February of this year.

Before going to work, he went for a surf on the Gold Coast, but was pulled unconscious from the water and revived by lifesavers.
