Emma Raducanu is a British professional tennis player. She reached a career-high ranking of No. 10 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on 11 July 2022, and is the current British No. 1. Raducanu is the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title at the US Open champion since Virginia Wade in the 1977 Wimbledon Championships.
Emma was born to a Chinese mother and a Romanian father in Canada. Her family moved to Great Britain and became permanent citizens when she was just two years old. Her father Ion is from Bucharest in Romania and her mother Renee is from Shenyang in China.
Emma was born on November 13, 2002, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada but she was raised in Bromley, England. Emma started her basic education at Bickley Primary School and then moved to Newstead Wood School. When she was younger, she stated that she would like to become an athlete like Simona Halep.
Being focused on her dream, she made her International Tennis Federation (ITF) debut in Liverpool at the Nike Junior International – a grade 5 event – after she entered at the age of 13. She subsequently won the tournament eight days later and became the youngest ever winner of an ITF Under-18 tournament.
Emma was set to start the 2022 season at the Melbourne Summer Set, but withdrew, due to her recent bout of COVID-19, however, she began the season at the Sydney International and lost to Elena Rybakina in the first round.
