Sherri Papini, the northern California woman charged last month with faking her kidnapping in 2016, agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors on Tuesday, admitting she made up the story that sparked a frantic search and made international news.
William Portanova, her lawyer, said his client would plead guilty to counts of lying to a federal officer and mail fraud.

The Sacramento Bee was the first to report on the plea deal.
Papini, 39, of Redding, was missing for three weeks until resurfacing on Thanksgiving Day in 2016, after a search that spanned California and many neighboring states.
Her body was bound, and she was injured, with a hazy “brand” on her right shoulder and a swollen nose.
Her body was covered in bruises and rashes, as well as ligature scars on her wrists and ankles and burns on her left forearm.
