Susan Collins is a Maine senator and a senior member of the United States Senate.

She has been a member of the Republican Party since 1997 and is Maine’s longest-serving member of Congress.

Collins is a graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and was born in Caribou, Maine.

She began her career as a staff assistant for Senator William Cohen in 1975, and in 1981.
