The National Football League (NFL) has lost one of its greatest players and coaches of all time, John Madden. John passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the age of 85.
Having played a major role in modern NFL history, his demise came as shock to many.

John Madden cause of death
The cause of John Madden death is currently unknown, even though he battled an ulcer for most of the 1977 season.
In a press statement, Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner disclosed that John Madden died ‘unexpectedly’.
“Nobody loved football more than Coach. He was football. He was an incredible sounding board to me and so many others,” the statement said.
“There will never be another John Madden, and we will forever be indebted to him for all he did to make football and the NFL what it is today,” it added.

On Thursday, December 30, Roger Goodell issued a memo to all NFL teams where he asked all of Week 17’s home teams to honor John Madden with a moment of silence before their games kick off.
“As you know, the NFL lost a true giant on Tuesday with the passing of John Madden. To help honor his legacy, we ask that each home team in Week 17 observe a moment of silence in his memory just prior to the start of the game,” the memo said.
The family of John Madden is yet to issue a statement about his funeral arrangements and obituary posters. His wife, Virginia Madden, and two children, Joseph Madden, Michael Madden, are yet to speak on his death.

The National Football League (NFL) and Madden’s family announced his final burial rites and funeral arrangements on Friday through a joint press statement on its website.
The location for the funeral of the Hall of Fame coach will be in Oakland, California.
Madden, who is known in the Bay Area for his legacy with the Raiders, went to Jefferson High School in Daly City. He lived with his wife in Pleasanton before his passing.
The NFL added that further details on the memorial will be announced in the near future.
“The Madden family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support during the difficult time following John Madden’s passing.
There will be a public memorial service on Tuesday, February 15th in Oakland, California. Further details will be announced in the near future,” the statement said.
